Fine Arts: Many of our high school students will be travelling to Jacksonville this Thursday and Friday for the FACCS Sr. Fine Arts competition. If last Friday evening's Spring Concert was any indication, our students are certain to garner accolades (and trophies!).
Race for Education: On Friday, March 19, our students are invited to participate in our annual Race for Education. Upper School students may enter by filling out mailers which have been sent out by the school. Extra forms are available at the middle school office. Thank you for your support of MSA!
Calendar Change: We are very excited to announce that Morningside was named as the host site for the 2010 FACCS Regional Junior Fine Arts Competition. This is an incredible opportunity, and will hopefully make it easier for you, our parents, to come out and support your children as they compete!
Please note, on Friday, April 23, 2010, we will be closing school for the day. This is necessary to accommodate the ten plus schools that will be on our campus. Our staff will be on campus facilitating the event. Additionally, we will likely be assembling volunteer teams to assist with various responsibilities.
Because we are closing school for the day, and due to state regulations, we must also add a day to our school calendar. As a result, we will have a half day on Friday, May 28th.
Building Update: The contractors for the Upper School Gymnasium are in place, and are currently working on plans for the project. We have hired a site engineer from the Velcon Group to determine the extent to which we are allowed to expand at the Upper School site. The engineer is currently meeting with the city to gather necessary information to proceed. We will keep you informed as things progress.
Stanford Achievement Testing approaching: Students will be taking SAT’s beginning on March 15th . Ninth through eleventh graders will complete testing on Wednesday while our middle school students will be finished on Thursday. Test results become part of each student’s permanent academic record and are valuable tools in determining the success of our academic program. We encourage students to get lots of rest and eat a healthy breakfast each morning to have the greatest advantage possible.
Can you help?

Parents, Parents: an important note about the health and well being of our students… if your child is feeling “under the weather”, please keep them home! Children who arrive at school with a fever or who develop a fever over the school day will be sent home. It is critical that you not send your child to school ill, not only for the sake of his/her peers, but also for your child. A child sent to school with a weakened immune system is susceptible to other germs as well, which may mean more lost school days. If your child is diagnosed with the flu, please notify us at once, and we also strongly suggest that not only do you keep your child home, but that you keep their siblings home too. The following excerpt is from a publication from the CDC in regards to the flu and schools:
Stay home when sick:
Those with flu-like illness should stay home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever, or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medicines. They should stay home even if they are using antiviral drugs.1
Students with ill household members stay home:
Students who have an ill household member should stay home for five days from the day the first household member got sick. This is the time period they are most likely to get sick themselves.2
