A note from Mrs. Adams:

Lower School Weekly News Flash

February 22, 2012

The long weekend was great, and the weather was beautiful. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. We have a busy week planned this week, with Olympics on Friday and special lunches scheduled on Thursday. It will be a great time!

Chapel: There seems to be some confusion about Chapel this week. We will be having Chapel on Thursday. It will be at 8:30 in the Family Center. We will be celebrating out Students of the Month and Eagle Award recipients. We will also have some awards from P.E. and hear our Bible verses.

Olympics is the big event of the week. You all received Olympic information in the Wednesday packets last week, but here is a quick run down.

  • Opening Ceremonies will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. on Friday
  • Immediately following the opening ceremony (approx.9:30), the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be transported to the upper school for their events and the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students will remain on the lower campus to participate in their events.
  • There will be two upper school students assigned to each grade level to help with the events. Parents may be asked to help in certain events, but for the most part, parents are there to cheer on their children and classes, enjoy themselves, and model good sportsmanship.
  • The K-2nd grade classes are scheduled for lunch beginning at about 11:30. The events should be over by 12:30 or so. The 3rd-5th grade students should also finish up about 12:30 and will then return to the lower campus for their lunch.
  • Closing Ceremony and medal presentation will begin at 1:45 in the Family Center.
  • Parents are welcome to join us for all of the events and ceremonies. Hot Dog man will be here if you want to grab lunch with your children. I realize that some of you have already ordered lunch, and it will be ready of you. If you did not already order, he will have some extra’s and you can pay $5.00 for a lunch that day.
  • Students may wear any sneakers that day. They may wear shorts(fingertip length) , sweats or long pants, and an Olympic tee shirt or any school issued tee shirt (musical, eagle, etc…) They may wear hats and/or sunglasses and any socks. (No sandals will be permitted)  No uniform is required on Olympic Day, but clothing must be appropriate. We have had issues in the past with girls and their shorts. Please make sure that they are fingertip length and no shorter.
  • You may sign your child out in his/her classroom after closing ceremonies if you would like to take them home at that time.

Thank you so much for the Juice Box and granola bar donations. We are still accepting those. Remember that you will be given 30 minutes of volunteer time for each item with a maximum of 4 hours given.

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday!
